Condition/Details: Bound in blue cloth with yellow lettering and red decorative motifs, this volume is a scarce copy of this novel set in rural Alabama. It covers seven generations of the Howland family that lived in the same house and built a community around themselves. As such, it is a metaphor for the long-established families of the Deep South of the United States, their encounter with changing values and norms, and the hypocrisy of racism. In 1965, The Keepers of the House was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The inscription on the title page reads: " To Wade Hall, With all good wishes, Shirley Ann Grau, 14 July 1994" The volume is solidly bound with clean pages. Original dustjacket in glassine cover.
