S. first edition (first printing) Condition/Details: Bound in quarter cloth with bright embossing to spine, this volume is a scarce signed first edition of this Nigerian author's acclaimed novel. It was awarded the Booker Prize for Fiction in 1991, the Chianti Ruffino-Antico Fattore International Literary Prize in 1993, and the Premio Grinzane in 1994. The novel follows Azaro, an abiku or spirit child, living in an unnamed most likely Nigerian city. The novel employs a unique narrative style incorporating the spirit world with the "real" world in what some have classified as magical realism. Others have labeled it animist realism. Still others choose to simply call the novel fantasy literature. Inscription on title page reads: "To Ben,/ With warm wishes/ for joy and/ serenity,/ Many blessings,/ Ben Okri/ 18 - 5 -92/ Seattle" The volume is in fine condition, and is solidly bound with clean, bright pages.
