Condition/Details: Bound in gray cloth with embossing, this antique volume is a scarce signed reissue of the author's 1944 novel, winner of the 1945 Pulitzer Prize for the Novel. It tells the story of an Italian-American officer in Sicily during World War II who wins the respect and admiration of the people of the town of Adano by helping them find a replacement for the town bell that the Fascists had melted down for bullets. This edition includes a new foreword by the author. Inscription on the title pages reads: "For Charles H. Sacks John Hersey February 1965" The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. Clipped dustjacket is in glassine cover.
