Condition/Details: Bound in rust-colored cloth with bright gilt embossing to spine, this volume is a scarce early edition of the English author's first novel, an account of a young woman's kidnapping, with interspersed narratives of the events by both abductor and victim forming a reflection of/on class and intellectual divisions in society. The novel was made into a Hollywood movie in 1965. Author's signature and date of "2001 August" appear on a tipped-in bookplate. The volume shows very light external age/wear and minor tape staining on endpapers. Plastic wrapper serves as protective cover. This book is solidly bound with clean, bright pages, and measures approximately 5.5" x 7.75". It contains 283 pages. It should be noted that "The Aristos", containing philosophical observations intended to elaborate on themes presented in this novel is also being offered in this auction. Please see lot 308.
