Condition/Details: Bound in rust-colored cloth with bright gilt embossing to spine, this volume is a scarce early edition of the English author's first novel, an account of a young woman's kidnapping, with interspersed narratives of the events by both abductor and victim forming a reflection of/on class and intellectual divisions in society. The novel was made into a Hollywood movie in 1965. Author's signature and date of "2001 August" appear on a tipped-in bookplate. The volume shows very light external age/wear and minor tape staining on endpapers. Plastic wrapper serves as protective cover. This book is solidly bound with clean, bright pages, and measures approximately 5.5" x 7.75". It contains 283 pages.
