Title: A Tramp Abroad
Author: Mark Twain Publisher: American Publishing Company Printing Year: 1880 First Edition, Second State Condition/Details: Bound in its original chocolate cloth-covered boards with gilt embossing, this rare antique volume is a first edition example of Mark Twain's work of non-fiction travel literature. It is profusely illustrated, with over three hundred in-text and full-page images, plus a frontispiece portrait and the Moses plate. From the same estate, in lot 422, we are also offering in this auction, a first edition copy of Twain's "Punch, Brothers, Punch", published two years before this title. The volume shows some external age/wear concentrated at the extremities, and is securely bound with some play to the hinges. Internally, the book is very clean, there is no marginalia and no inscriptions, the marble-edged pages are clean with light age toning. The book measures approximately 6" x 9" and contains 631 pages with an advertisement for The Innocents Abroad on the back side of the final text page.
