Pierre Jules Mene (1810-1877), Bronze "Valet de Chien" introduced in 1869 Translation: Valetdog on horseback leading his herd" It is a Napoleonic figure on horseback with a large hunting horn over one shoulder and scabbard sword at his waist. He has under rein five bloodhounds, each with a brand on its right side. The detail and finishing is astounding as evidenced by the most minute detail in saddle, bridle, uniform, scabbard, stirrups, boots, etc. The finish is a dark brown patina, with the exception of only the pine-boughs laying on the base which have a verde (green) patina. This is a very impressive and large piece, measures 29" wide, 15" deep and 25 1/2" tall Weight approx 120 pounds
