Oil on canvas with heavy crazing. 20" w x 16.5"h. Unframed. Est. $2,000-3,000. Ship: $35. This piece is thought to depict The Great Chelsea Fire of April 12, 1908 in which 3,000 buildings were destroyed and 18,000 were made homeless. The White building in the middle appears to depict the Chelsea Mass. Fire Station. A very similar, but unsigned painting and most likely by another hand, sold at James Julia's Auction in 2007 for $37,375. Research indicates that Bruce Innis, 1882-1955, was born in Canada and later immigrated to the U.S. in 1902.
Condition reportHeavy crazing.
