Rare and important Rookwood Black Iris vase with striking daisy decoration done by Kataro Shirayamadani in 1903. Orange flowers and green stems encircle the vase which has a true black ground covered with clear high glaze. Marks include the Rookwood logo and date, shape number 917 A, an incised W for white (Iris) glaze and the incised cypher of the artist. Height 11 3/8 inches. Uncrazed. Not the largest Black Iris vase we have sold but certainly one of the most striking.
