American Chippendale open armchair, carved mahogany with probably original yellow pine (tested) slip seat, slip seat with period inscription "Rendel(?)", double through-tenon and pegged construction, Southern or possibly Colonial, 18th century, 40-1/2 x 26 x 19 in. In as-found condition, slip seat badly broken, breaks and separations at seat frame joints, crest, skirt and knee carving, crest carving reapplied, loss to one front toe, finish distress overall, carving and appliques possibly later.
