Four silhouettes: "Anna Maria Pemberton Holmes-York 1846", "Edward Anderson Holmes", "Mrs. Maryanne Pemberton Holmes", unsigned, cut inked paper with watercolor highlights applied to cream paper, 4-1/4 x 3 in.; "…Mary Ann Holmes…4 Nov 1811…by The Machine", ink with hand applied ink highlights, 3-5/8 x 2-5/8 in. (sight), all inscribed verso, unsigned, American or British, 19th century; original gilt wood frames. All with light grime, light foxing and toning; frames with abrasions. Provenance: By tradition, these silhouettes have a history in the Lewis family of Spotsylvania County, Virginia
