Gurley Light Mountain transit, with Burt solar attachment, silvered dial marked "W. & L.E. Gurley, Troy, New York", marked on side "University of Dakota", Jones latitude arc marked "RM Jones Patent Jan. 16th 1883 No. 16", 8-1/8 in. telescope, 4 in. needle, height 13 in., in dovetailed mahogany case with Gurley paper label and sun shield, 12-3/4 x 9-1/4 x 7-1/2 in., with extentable tripod, brass clips marked "Gurley", 35 in. closed. Good condition, normal wear, case with stains and losses. Provenance: The Collection of the Late Ronald Kiser, Mars Hill, North Carolina Owner notes, on bottom of upper plate, "H.N.R.E.C., Fred Buednow, May 1900, JCK July 1930, Jim Patton 1973". (not disassembled to verify marks).
