Berger mining transit, face marked "C.L. Berger & Sons, Boston, USA", serial number 9342, patent dates 1897 and 1901, 7-1/2 in. telescope; with 5 in. auxiliary scope, height 10-1/2, fitted double strap leather-covered mahogany case with original label, label on top "University of Minnesota", serial number 9342, 1913, 8 x 14-1/2 x 7-1/2 in., lid with three extra caps, plumb bob marked "Berger & Sons", with brass-mounted expandable Gurley tripod, sun shield. Excellent condition with minor abrasions and normal wear. Provenance: The Collection of the Late Ronald Kiser, Mars Hill, North Carolina
