February. Famine. Europe. Art. Laughs]. Moscow: "Krasnaya Nov," 1923. 100 pp. Small 8vo (175 x 130 mm). Original Constructivist wrappers designed by A. Rodchenko and printed in red. Condition: One of 3000 copies. first edition of this selection of nineteen satirical poems about early soviet life. The Poet of the Revolution took on bureacratic absurdity in these poems of "Nash byt" ["Our Way of Life"]. Although he generally did not care for Mayakovsky's work, Lenin greatly enjoyed the poet's take on endless committees in "Prozasedavsshiesya" ["Lost in Conference," pp 81-83]. "It's a long time since I experienced such pleasure and satisfaction, from a political and administrative point of view," he admitted. "I don't know if it is good poetry, but I guarantee you it's absolutely right from a political point of view" (Brown p. 223). Not in MoMA. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
