GONCHAROVA, Natalya Sergeevna (1881-1962). Des Fleures. Chromolithograph (305 x 230 mm). Marked twice with artist's stamp lower right. Framed. Exhibited: May-June, 1977, Libreria & Galleria Pan, Rome. Goncharova was a prominent figure in the pre-Revolutionary Moscow avant-garde, in which women commanded an unusual degree of freedom and respect. Her first work in the field of lithographic publishing was her illustrations to Kruchenykh and Khlebnikov's 1912 book length poem Igra v adu [A Game in Hell], and she is considered to be the first Russian artist to use the technique of collage in book design. Goncharova was a radical both in art and life. She and Mikhail Larionov lived together for decades as an unmarried couple. They finally married in 1955 to ensure that whoever survived the other could inherit his or her paintings.ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
