Avon Faience vase by Frederick Rhead made circa 1902-1903. This piece displays stylized leaves and blossoms done by squeezebag on an incised background. Avon was Rhead's first employer in America where he introduced revolutionary decorating techniques to the American Art Pottery movement. Marked Avon 165-1005 and stamped with an oval ink stamp from a jewelry store or retailer in Connecticut. There is a 1/8" glaze flake to the rim. 7 3/8" tall. A very similar piece is pictured on page 168 of the reference guide American Art Pottery by David Rago.
