Title: Lagoon 6/29 Media: ultrachrome on paper Date: 2002 Size: 30 x 40 inches Signature: sigend verso: Subhankar Banerjee / Lagoon, 2002 / print 2004 / edition 6/29 Literature/Exhibition History: The 15th annual Santa Fe Art Auction is pleased to be able to offer this important American photograph, Lagoon, by Subhankar Banerjee, the highly respected contemporary artist, educator, and activist. Banerjee has worked closely with conservation organizations as well as with members of the U.S. Senate and House of representatives to educate the public about the beauty of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and the urgent need to protect it from industrial exploitation. His arctic photographs have been exhibited in over 30 museums in the U.S. and Europe. Banerjee has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the inaugural Cultural freedom fellowship from the Lannan foundation, and an inaugural Greenleaf artist award from the United Nations Environment Programme. Banerjee has been selected artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College for winter 2009, where he will also exhibit at the Hopkins Center for the arts. He currently serves on the advisory board of blue earth alliance. Banerjee lives in Santa Fe, where he is working on a series of New Mexico photographs. THE PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THIS PIECE WILL BE DONATED TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP GLOBAL GREEN, THE AMERICAN ARM OF FORMER PRESIDENT MIKHAIL GORBACHEV’S INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO EDUCATING ABOUT AND ACTING TO REDUCE GLOBAL WARMING.
