Alan Lowndes (1921-1978) 'The Viaduct, Stockport', lithograph, signed in pencil and dated 1973, artist's proof, 41cm x 39cm Lowndes is known as painter of the industrial north of England, particularly Stockport, Cheshire, where he was born. In the late 1940s he attended Stockport College and began painting full time. In the early 1950s he moved to St.Ives in Cornwall where he stayed for ten years though often returned north for inspiration.
