Josef Herman RA (1911-2000) 'Seated figure in blue', ink and wash drawing, 20cm x 25cm Provenance: Ex Bernard Jacobson Gallery, London Herman was born in Warsaw in 1911. In 1940 he moved to Glasgow and four years later moved to Ystradgynllais in South Wales where he spent the rest of his life and came to be considered as a Welsh artist. Herman's range of subjects was broad though he is perhaps best known for his depictions of the miners and mining villages of South Wales. He was awarded an OBE in 1981 and became a Royal Academician in 1990.
