Description: Includes: A Wisconsin Boy in Dixie: The Selected Letters of James K. Newton. [1961] * Halleck: Lincoln's Chief of Staff. [1962] * Duty, Honor, Country: A History of West Point. [1966] * The Supreme Commander: The War Years of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. [1970]. Together 4 octavo volumes bound in cloth with printed jackets.Four important association copies, all inscribed and signed by the author. First two volumes on front free endpapers addressed to William B. Hesseltine. Third volume inscribed on half title to "Miss Kate." Fourth volume inscribed on flyleaf to Mrs. W. B. Hesseltine, and includes a typed letter laid in addressed to her describing the author's reflections on her late husband who "remains my inspiration." While the author was enrolled in the University of Wisconsin as a pre-med student, he was required to take an American history course. After attending one lecture by Professor W. B. Hesseltine, he was so inspired that he changed his major to history that very day.
