Title: Landscape of waterfall at Yellowstone Park
Author: Moore, J.M. Description: Oil on canvas board, approximately 21½x10", framed.Painting of a large waterfall and river descending between steep rock faces with larger snow-capped peaks in the distance. Signed lower right with the artists name and a small cattle head. John "Tex" Moore, self-taught painter of the west in Texas and Yellowstone. Moore worked as a cowboy and painted scenes of cowboy life and landscapes of Colorado, Montana and Wyoming. About 1885 he opened a studio near Yellowstone Park. In 1935 Moore returned to his native Texas where his was named by the Texas legislature "Official Cowboy Artist of the Lone Star State."
