Title: The Tourist's Pocket Map of the State of Indiana, Exhibiting its Internal Improvements, Roads, Distances, &c. By J.H. Young
Author: Mitchell, Samuel Augustus Description: Copper-engraved map, hand-colored. 39x32 cm. (15¼x12¾"), folding into original red morocco decoratively stamped and lettered in gilt.Pocket map detailing the counties, rivers, creeks, canals, proposed canals and railroads, etc. The Miami Reserve is shown, as is "The Country Ceded by the Pottawatomies to the United States, 1832." There are engraved tables on either side, on the left indicated the distances and stops of various steamboat routes, including Louisville to New Oreleans; Louisville to Pittsburg; Ohio River to Lafayette; and Ohio River to Indianapolis. At the right are population tables for the various counties and the state as a whole (339,399 total whites; 3,629 total free colored; 0 male slaves, and 3 female slaves).
