Author: Ortelius, Abraham Description: Copper-engraved map, hand-colored. 37.2x48.5 cm. (14½x19").Ortelius' important map of Asia as it was known in the latter part of the 16th century. The map includes parts of Africa, Natolia, and the land of Moscovia eastwards to the Pacific Ocean. Japan is oddly shaped, and placed far to the north. An overly large Nova Guinea is at the bottom right with "Terra Incognita" (present-day Australia) below that. Latin text on verso.
