American Revolution
British Broadsheet of the Killed and Wounded at the "Battles of Lexington & Concord" and "Bunker's Hill" c. 1775 Revolutionary War, British Imprint, "A List of the Killed and Wounded, of His Majesty's Forces at the Engagement of Bunker's-Hill...," Very Fine. Historic Printed Broadsheet, measuring 9" x 16" on a double sided sheet, containing three separate printed lists of British soldiers killed and wounded in three different battles during the American Revolution and Signed in print by Thomas Gage. The first is, "A List of the killed and wounded, and those made prisoners or missing, of His Majesty's Forces, under the command of Lt. Col. Smith, of the 10th Reg. Maj. Pitcairne of the Marines, and the brigade under Lord Percy. At the Battles of Lexington and Concord, April 19th, 1775." Below it is a list of names of all the casualties in the officer corps, along with whatever losses had been inflicted upon "the rank and file." The same pattern is followed in describing the aftermath of the Battle of Bunker Hill, placed next to the list for Lexington and Concord. On the reverse are listed Howe's losses in "several engagements and skirmishes with the Provincials, from the taking of Long Island, August 27th, to the close of that campaign, the 8th of December, 1776." Here casualties are listed by rank (without specific names) for American Loyalist forces and Hessian mercenaries, while British regulars (or at least their officers) are afforded personal recognition. This document is very well printed on heavy, quality laid paper, with two small tears previously repaired with some clear tape, and having a very nice overall appearance and likely from a contemporary British publication. An amazing imprint from the very outset of the American Revolution. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
