American Revolution
Revolutionary War Era News from Boston May 29, 1780, THE BOSTON GAZETTE AND THE COUNTRY JOURNAL, Printed by Benjamin Edes & Sons, Very Good. Printed in the midst of the American Revolution, this Boston-based newspaper features a masthead woodcut of a seated woman with a Liberty cap on a pole, freeing a bird from a cage. This vintage, three-column newspaper measures 15.5" x 10", and is four-pages long. The frontpage has a notice for the "History of the Rise and Progress of the present War in America..." Page one also includes a printed speech from Britain's House of Commons, discussing the Irish and the Scots. The inside pages have a report on military preparations, signed in print by "A MILITARY COUNTRYMAN", and the usual advertisements, arrivals and departures of ships, and business notices. Paper has toning, dampstaining, edge splitting, and tape reinforcements along the spine and folds. Still, a valuable historical newspaper from the Revolutionary War era!
