c. 1783 "The Unfortunate Death of Major Andre" c. 1783, "The Unfortunate Death of Major Andre...," Engraving by Goldar, Choice Extremely Fine. 11.5" x 7.9" imprint on heavy, fine-laid paper, clipped and expertly restored to overall size of 12.25" x 7.5." Uncolored engraving most likely for "Barnard's New Complete & Authentic History of England," drawn by "Hamilton"--Goldar is listed as "sculp." Bottom panel has been repaired along horizontal fold. Elaborate faux "3D" frame, and central image of the hanging of Major Andre, a British adjutant-general who was convicted of being a spy, and executed October 2, 1780, in New York.
