c. 1861, Front panel from a Civil War, Patriotic Stationery Kit, Cover Featuring a depiction of the mighty elephant -- twenty years before Jumbo made it to these shores! Choice Near Mint.
Measuring 8 1/2 x 5" and printed in black and red on cream, this graphic piece features an illustration of an elephant with a flag bearing the name of this specific portfolio: "Elephant Package." The advertising cover offers the purchaser 12 note sheets and envelopes, a steel pen with holder as well as a pocket comb and card picture. The bonus is "1 Fine Piece of Jewelry." The package was offered by James Gates of Cincinnati.
