Civil War Capture of a Union Maine Sergeant in 1864

August of 1864, Civil War Union Manuscript Document, written in Letter form, Very Good.
Statement from a Maine Union Officer Regarding Capture of Sergeant on August of 1864, written in pencil, probably while in the field. It reads:

"I well remember Serj. Edwin C. Jones of my company. We were ordered from Arlington Heights enroute for Fredericksburg by the way of Antietam in light marching order. Our overcoats and all unneccary (sic) baggage being sent to Washing. Thus leaving us to the mercies of the severe snowstorm which we encountered near Frederickburg Va. without overcoats. The last of Nov or the first of Dec. At this time Serj. Jones complained of Plurisy and heart trouble. I took him in my tent and cared for him the best I could. We went to Sick calls and was treated by the Regimental Surgeon. He complained more or less of these troubles while under my command although he did duty most of the time. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Weldon Rail Road on or about Aug 19, 1864.- D.W. Barnes."

This letter measures 8" x 11.5" written on lined writing paper, which is somewhat rumpled, creased, with a period stain in the upper right corner. This letter is said to have been found with the original papers of Captain Daniel Marston of the Maine 16th Vols.
