Civil War Union Letters
Civil War Letter "...playing soldier is played out."

January 19, 1864, A Soldier Has Had Enough of Soldiering, Washington, D.C., Very Fine.
Autograph Letter Signed, "J.B. Kimeren," on fine-laid paper, stationery from Medical Director's Office, Washington, D.C., 10" x 8." Kimeren writes to a friend named "Wilson," complains about the soldiering life, in part: "...my uniform you speak about in your letter. you can take it and make of it what you wish. I am sure I shall never need it again. playing soldier is played out. I have experienced the thing in reality and have got all I want of it. for no money could hire me to go soldiering again. I think my three years will be up in May next and if I will have to go to New York to get mustered out why I shall visit you then..." it is not clear if Kimeren was recuperating from wounds or not, but one might come to that conclusion based on the stationery from the Medical Director's Office. Light toning and a few minor stains, some folds and edge splits. Also includes a $10 "Confederate States of America" bill. Toned, worn edges, a few small holes, torn in half, but taped. A nice set--interesting content! (2 items)
