Commemorative Centennial Textile of U.S. Independence c. 1876, Commemorative Centennial Textile of U.S. Independence, Choice Near Mint. 39" x 20" woven cream-colored linen with red and black threaded borders. Featuring woven images and titles: "THE / INDEPENDENCE / OF THE / UNITED STATES / OF / AMERICA / DECLARED / JULY 4TH 1776" and "WASHINGTON / ELECTED / PRESIDENT / OF THE / FEDERAL UNION / MARCH 1789 / E. PLURIBUS. UNUM." The central text is bounded by images and icons of foliage, shields, stars, and a heraldic eagle. The interesting feature of this textile is that the woven images are the same coloration as the rest of the piece, and can be discerned because the threads are a shinier, brighter hue.
