Puritan Spinning Thread Hooked-Wool Stair Tread

c. 1930s, Colorful Hooked-Wool on Burlap Stair Tread with Colonial Figure Spinning Thread, Choice Extremely Fine.
This exceptional hooked-rug stair tread, measuring approximately 7" x 27" long, depicts a colonial woman in distinctive "Puritan" garb--black dress, white cap and large white collar; as she spins red "thread" her black cat watches her; the scene includes a black rocking chair, a large red and blue rug, a window, door, and grey and plum backdrop, with dark blue and green end borders. This charming scene was created with multicolored wool on burlap, produced during the second quarter of the 20th Century.
