Colorful "Marbled Border" May 10, 1775 Twenty Dollars Continental Congress. May 10, 1775. Twenty Dollars. "Marbled Border" Type. Very Fine. This unique style Continental note has a huge "Marbled Border" margin at left, measuring just over 3/4" wide and is vividly colorful. The marbling is so large that it allows for the entire black printed border design to be very well centered and fully on the paper. In addition, the printed text "Twenty Dollars" is well centered within the marbling itself. It is boldly signed by John Maxwell Nesbitt in dark brown and Thomas Barkley in light red. There is some conservation along the vertical centerfold area. The overall design of this note with its long rectangular shape and size, combined with the colorful marbling at left, is unique to any other Colonial or Continental issue. This special note was printed upon paper that was obtained by and provided to the Continental Congress by Benjamin Franklin. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
