Title: Constitution and By-Laws of Moose River Reform Club: Organized June 1, 1882
Author: unnamed author Publisher: Robinson Engraving Co. (Boston) Printing Year: 1886 Inscribed Condition/Details: Bound in pebbled red cloth with bright silver embossing representing hunting and fishing motifs, this antique volume is very rare rule book of an exclusive club whose stated purpose was "friendly rivalry in piscatorial pursuits and the slaughter of Caribou and Bears." The following stipulations were made in relation to membership: " Any gentleman who is a disciple of Izaak Walton and a follower of Nimrod shall be eligible to membership. Every member shall pay an initiation fee of ten dollars. No person shall become a member without the unanimous consent of the Club. The membership shall be limited to ten." This book bears the following inscription by John A. Dowe on front endpaper: " Percy E. Dowe / with the compliments of / his Reverend brother / the "Grand Chaplain" / Yonkers NY June 21/86". The work is illustrated with a number of engravings. The volume shows light external age/wear to covers. Intact textblock is now detached with clean, gilt-edged pages.
