Notes: Bound in brown blindstamped cloth with gilt lettered spines, this antique set is a scarce partial set of Webster's works signed by the author on the "Subscriber's Copy" page in volume I. This listing includes Volumes I, IV, and V. The work is illustrated with frontispiece portrait in volume I as well as an illustration of Webster's birthplace. Webster was a leading lawyer, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State, and statesman during the "Antebellum" period. He gained his reputation first through his defense of New England shipping rights. The volumes show minor external age/wear,concentrated at the top of the spines and are solidly bound with clean, lightly age toned pages. There are some uncut pages throughout all three volumes.
