Title: Li Hung Chang's Scrap-Book

(London) Printing Year: 1913 Condition/Details: Bound in maroon cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce historical-philosophical work by Li Hungzhang (1823 - 1901), who was a Chinese general who ended several major rebellions, and a leading statesman of the late Qing Empire. He served in important positions of the Imperial Court, once holding the office of the Viceroy of Zhili. He was best known in the West for his diplomatic negotiation skills. The work is illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of the author and 42 plates, also with tissue guards. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean, bright pages. Endpapers are stamped "Pittsburgh Rationalist Society" with no other markings present.
