This original World War One poster is part of a large collection we are selling during this auction. The posters in this group have been carefully stored for the past century and form an impressive, unique collection. Title: War Stamps - What They Are Artist: NA Printer: NA Year: c1918 Dimensions: 25" by 37" Condition/Details: Additional main body text includes: 1. They are the direct obligation of the U.S. Government. 2. They are in two denominations - $5.00 and 25c. 3. The $5 Stamp is called a War Savings Stamp. It costs $4.12 in January 1918 and increase in cost one cent each month thereafter. 4. The U. S. Government, will pay you $5 for this Stamp on January 1, 1923. The difference between what you pay and $5.00 is equal to the interest on your money at 4% compounded quarterly. 5. War Savings Stamps when purchased should be attached to a War Savings Certificate. Each certificate will hold 20 Stamps. 6. At any time on ten days' notice the U. S. Government will buy these Stamps back from you. Take them to the Post Office and the Postmaster will give you back what you paid for each Stamp plus one cent additioanl for each month you have kept it. The Government will not buy back Stamps which are not attached to a Certificate. 7. War Saving Stamps not only cannot go down in value but they are guaranteed by the U. S. Government go up in vlaue as the interest is added. 8. The 25c Stamp is called a Thrift Stamp. 9. Thrift Stamps when purchased should be attached to a Thrift Certificate. Each certificate will hold 16 Stamps and when full is worth $4.00. 10. Thrift Stamps do not draw interest. A Thrift Card full of Thrift Stamps may be exchanged for a $5 War Savings Stamp which does draw interest, by paying the difference between $4 and the cost of a War Savings Stamp at the time you make the exchange.11. Each War Savings Stamp you buy is a direct help to every soldier and sailor who is risking his life in the war. 12. Your employer probably carries these Stamps for sale. If he does not you can buy them at any Post Office or bank, or at hundreds of stores and factories. There is minor loss to material at the top left-hand corner and a tear several inches below that point. This poster has never been folded, nor has it ever been taped or pinned.
