Title: The Literary Magazine: or, Universal Review
Publisher: J. Richardson/J. Wilkie (London) Printing Year: 1756 - 1758 Number of Volumes: Complete 3 volume set Notes: Bound in red cloth with bright gilt lettering to spine, this set is a scarce Xerox reproduction of the entire run of this journal. This literary and historical publication received regular contributions from the writer Samuel Johnson, who initially contributed polemical essays against British involvement in the Seven Years' War; Johnson subsequently wrote at least 34 reviews for this magazine. All three volumes have Cornell professor and Samuel Johnson scholar Donald D. Eddy's name on front endpapers; all volumes are heavily annotated by him, providing expert commentary on both the work and this unique copy, apparently a selection of all available material drawn from different libraries. The volumes are in fine condition, and are solidly bound with clean, bright pages. The books measure approximately 9" x 11". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $12.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
