Bound in three quarter leather with marbled boards, this antique volume is a unique collection of political speeches, assembled in a private binding. As was a popular pursuit of the day, an individual commissioned a bindery to create this unique collection, bound in a specific order and trimmed where needed to create a cohesive look to the volume. The included texts were most often originally published in wraps and were ensured a longer life through this process. This particular private binding volume contains dozens of original 19th-century printings of important landmark public addresses. The speeches and other messages were delivered by prominent American statesmen, educators and thinkers. The individual titles included in this volume are:
  • A Sketch of the Life and Public Services of William Henry Harrison. Commander in Chief of the North Western Army, During the War of 1812, & c by Unnamed author - Dated 1836 by Harper & Brothers
  • Speech of the Hon. Daniel Webster, in the Senate of the United States, on the President's Veto of the Bank Bill, July 11, 1832 -No date provided by uncredited publisher - Pages show water markings throughout
  • An Account of the Trial of Luther Myrick, Before the Oneida Presbytery by J. Root - Dated 1834 by J. P. Patterson (Syracuse) - Title page contains a handwritten comment at the bottom
  • Mr. Webster's Speech on the President's Protest Delivered in the Senate of the United States, May 7, 1834 - Dated 1834 by Gales and Seaton (Washington)
  • An Appeal to the People of the State of New York, in Favor of the Construction of the Chenango Canal: With Statements and Documents to Prove the Claim of That Part of the State for This Improvement; and Arguments on the Subject of the Supply of Water, Cost of Construction, and Revenue by Col. The volume shows external age/wear. Rear board has random newspaper clippings pasted to it. The textblock is intact, solidly bound with pages that show occasional foxing. The book measures approximately 5.5" x8.25 ". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
