Condition/Details: This large antique world's fair atlas is illustrated with color maps and many engraved illustrations. A number of the maps span facing pages and are bound on continuous sheets. Areas covered by the maps include all the continents, and all the states and territories of the United States, as well as the following countries and regions: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Central America, China, Cuba, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Germany Greece, Holland, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Oceanica, Palestine, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tasmania, United States, Wales. The following cities are represented through maps and plans: Boston, Berlin, Calcutta, Constantinople, Chicago, Jerusalem, London, Naples, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, St. Petersburg. Several biblical maps are also included. The engravings offers views of the following buildings at the World's Fair: Administration Building, Agricultural Building, Agricultural and Machinery Hall, Electrical Building, Fine Arts Building, Fisheries Building, Government Building, Horticultural Building, Illinois State Building, Machinery Hall, Manufacture and Liberal Arts Building, Mines and Mining Building, Transportation Building, Woman's Building, World's Fair Building, as well as a general ground plan of the fair. Additional engravings feature important buildings and landmarks in Chicago such as: Alexian Brothers' Hospital, Calumet Club, Chicago Medical College, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Cook County Hospital, Cook County Infirmary, Cook County Insane Asylum, Court House (before the fire), Court House in 1852, Crib, Criminal Court Building, First Regiment Armory, Foundling's Home, Hahnemann Medical College, Historical Society, Homeopathic College, Hospital for Women and Children, Marine Hospital, Masonic Temple, Michael Reese Hospital, Old Fellow's Hospital, Old City Hall, Old Fort Dearborn (1803), Old Kinzie Mansion, Old People's Home, Rush Medical College, Union League Club House, Water Tower, Water Works, Water Works in 1854, Wolf's Point in 1870, Wolf's and Miller's Taverns, Woman's Temperance Temple, Woman's Medical College. There are also the following views in parks and along residence streets: Adams and Aberdeen Sts, Drexel Fountain, first building erected after the fire, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, Jefferson Park, Jackson Park, Lincoln Park, Michigan Ave and 22d St, Ontario and Rush Sts, Prairie Ave and 20th St, Prairie Ave and 22d St, Ruins after the fire, Union Park, Washington Drive. The atlas shows some external age/wear. Hinges are weak, and textblock is intact with age-toned pages. The colors are vivid and the maps show beautifully. The atlas measures approximately 11.5" x 13.5" and contains 192 pages plus two pages of advertisements. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $6.50
