Title: In Hospital and Camp: A Woman's Record of Thrilling Incidents among the Wounded in the Late War

Potter and Company (Philadelphia) Printing Year: 1869 First edition Condition/Details: Bound in pebbled maroon cloth with gilt embossing to spine, this antique volume is a very rare autobiographical account of a nurse serving in United States military hospitals during the Civil War. The work is illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of the author and many plates. Spine is faded with fringe at the bottom chipped away and top fringe beginning to detach. Both hinges are cracked, text block is intact with age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 5.5" x 8.25" and contains 380 pages plus 4 pages of publisher's advertisements. This lot is part of a large collection of books and ephemera that we will be selling over the coming months, from the estate of Lewis E. Shuman, long-time collector from Rochester, New York.
