Condition/Details: Bound in black leather with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce city history dating back to the time of the Algonquins and their predecessors. This book chronicles the evolution of this community from colonial settlement to major regional center at the end of the nineteenth century, and gives an account of all aspects of civic life at that time, such as press, churches, benevolent institutions, public buildings, industry, utility services, etc. The work is illustrated with in-text engravings and many tissue-guarded plates depicting city officials and prominent citizens. The volume shows external age/wear, with spine detached at front gutter. Front fly-leaf is now detached, with title page and frontispiece loose. This book is otherwise solidly bound with clean, bright gilt-edged pages. The book measures approximately 8" x 10" and contains 854 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $9.50
