Printing Year: 1822 Two volumes bound as one Condition/Details: This leather-bound antique volume is a scarce work by the Scottish moral philosopher that provided provided the ethical, philosophical, psychological and methodological underpinnings to his later works, including The Wealth of Nations (1776), A Treatise on Public Opulence (1764) (first published in 1937), Essays on Philosophical Subjects (1795), and Lectures on Justice, Police, Revenue, and Arms (1763) (first published in 1896). The work lacks all initial pages to the first page of the "Contents of the Second Volume"; these pages are now laid in as folded photocopy. Rear board is detached. Marble-edged pages are age toned with some foxing. The book measures approximately 5.75" x 9" and contains 161/149 pages.
