Includes portraits of Sarah Bernhardt, Edwin Booth, Ellen Terry and Julia Marlowe among many others, shown in scenes from Shakespeare, Sheridan, Schiller, etc., with illustrations of the elaborate sets and costuming used for the performances. The work is illustrated with 128 photogravure portraits and scenes from steel plates, and over 400 portraits in the text. The volumes show mild external age/wear, and are solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages with gilt edges. First volume shows staining on the interior corners and top exterior corner of its first pages. The books measure approximately 12" x 17".
