Title: Visit of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to the North American Provinces and United States in the Year 1860.
Compiler: Robert Cellem Publisher: Henry Roswell (Toronto) Printing Year: 1861 Condition/Details: Bound in blue pebbled cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a very rare account of the first tour of North America by an heir to the British throne. Prince Albert Edward would succeed Queen Victoria in 1901 as King Edward VII. The volume presents a collection of texts compiled from the public journals. The following is from the introductory remarks: " In after years, when the acclamation and excitement shall have gradually lulled, perhaps this memento of the ovation which has been paid to Hs Royal Highness, and through him to his Queen mother, may wile many a weary hour, and teach our children that glorious institutions of England and Britain held sway yet, and dwelt in the hearts of their kindred equally in the British possessions as in the country of our cousins of the United States." The book contains a tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait with a facsimile signature underneath. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 6" x 8.75" and contains 438 pages. This lot is part of a large collection of books and ephemera that we will be selling over the coming months, from the estate of Lewis E. Shuman, long-time collector from Rochester, New York. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
