Title: Treatise of Gunnery
Author: John Gray Publisher: William Innys (London) Printing Year: 1731 First edition Condition/Details: Bound in leather with raised bands, this antique volume is a scarce study of gunnery as a branch of practical mathematics. A long preface provides a historical sketch of the subject, beginning with the days of ancient Greece and Rome, and includes references to such writers as Vegetius, Vitruvius, and Galileo. John Gray was a young mathematician, who taught at Marischal College in Aberdeen. This was his only book; the dedication is to the Duke of Argyll. This volume lacks title page and is illustrated with in-text diagrams, tables of calculation, and a folding plate at rear showing various trajectories. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 5" x 7.75" and contains xliii, 94 pages plus two pages of publisher's advertisements.
