1900 Old PA Capitol Carved Presentation Gavel

DESCRIPTION; Presentation gavel. Carved wood (probably walnut) with detailed inscriptions. On head "PRESIDENT/SELECT COUNCIL/HARRISBURG/1900/1901." On shaft "COMPLIMENTS OF J.C. BURKHOLDER/THIS WOOD IS FROM THE OLD CAPITOL/ERECTED MAY 31ST 1819 FIRE FEB 2 1897/L.C. CLEMSON." The gavel is one of several items made of the pieces of the Pennsylvania State Capitol after its fire in 1897. The carving on this gavel is exceptional and represents the work of a skilled craftsman. MEASUREMENTS: 12" x 3-1/2". CONDITION: No defects noted.
