Gregynog Press.- Euripides. The Plays, 2 vol. in 1, number 8 of 25 specially-bound copies from an edition limited to 500, printed in Bembo and Fairbank's Italic type, titles in brown and black, wood-engravings by Robert Ashwin Maynard and Horace Walter Bray after Greek vase paintings, last few leaves of vol.2 lightly foxed (as often), bound in brown levant morocco with figure of Apollo in gilt on upper cover and Achilles on lower within triple rule fillet, spine gilt with five raised bands, t.e.g., others uncut, very small scratch to spine, original fleece-lined oak slip-case, [Harrop 18], folio, Newtown, Gregynog Press, 1931.***According to Dorothy Harrop, the first 9 copies were bound together by George Fisher of the Gregynog Press Bindery. Copies 10-25 were bound in a similar fashion in 1952 by John Ewart Bowen at the National Library of Wales, but the bands of fine lines on covers and spine were replaced by a triple rule fillet. This copy would appear to be one of the latter despite being numbered 8.. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
