Bonaparte (Napoleon) Napoleon's Memoirs, edited by Somerset de Chair, 2 vol., number 27 of 50 specially-bound copies signed by the editor and with facsimile manuscript leaf, from an edition limited to 500, frontispieces, wood-engraved title-vignettes by John Buckland Wright, map endpapers, original green and purple morocco ruled and stamped in gilt with Bonaparte bee motifs designed by Buckland Wright, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, spines gilt, t.e.g., others uncut, spines faded and with slight scuffing to raised bands, cloth slip-case (spotted and soiled), [Cockalorum 167], small folio, Golden Cockerel Press, 1945.***"The bindings of the 'special' copies were perhaps the best to be found on any Cockerel book up to date, and could hardly be repeated, owing to the current scarcity of gold. Having used up the whole of his quota on these books, Mr Bray of Sangorski and Sutcliffe gently dissuaded me from a repetition of such extravagance. At this date it was still possible to have leathers dyed to special colours, and the shades of purple and green were just what I had desired". Cockalorum.
