The Nursery "Alice", second (first published) edition, presentation copy from the author to Maggie Bowman written in purple ink on half-title, chromolithographed frontispiece and illustrations by John Tenniel, occasional finger-soiling, pp.44-48 a few small stains, pencil inscription "Rosenbach" on front pastedown, original cloth-backed pictorial boards by E. Gertrude Thomson, slightly soiled, corners rather worn, spine a little frayed, preserved in later cloth slip-case, [Crutch 216], 4to, 1890.***Dodgson wrote a poem about Maggie Bowman entitled "Maggie's Visit to Oxford" (1889). She was one of Dodgson's child-friends,and the youngest member of a family, most of whom performed in "Alice" and "Through the Looking Glass" at the Royal Globe Theatre in 1888. .
