Log Cabin syrup was introduced in 1887 by Patrick Towle and named the syrup in honor of his childhood hero, President Abraham Lincoln, and his childhood in a log cabin. The marketing strategy which made the syrup a best seller was the packaging of the syrup in figural tins in the shape of log cabins - which as graphics changed became collectors items over the years - the marketing worked and Log Cabin is still going strong. We can guess that Mr. Long, in San Francisco, was inspired by Towle's success. So when he decided to go into the syrup business he thought a figural tin was a good idea and, inspired by our nation's western migration, he picked the image of the covered wagon - the engine of that great American era. Here are 3 different sizes of these tins - smallest to largest: "Breakfast Size", "Family Size", and "Cafe Size". We have spoken to a number of dealers and only one or two of the smallest tins has surfaced to their knowledge. Along with the tins is what can only be described as an amazing survivor, a lithographed cardboard advertising display model for the syrup company - complete with horses. This amazing assemblage was put together years ago by the late Ernie and Ida Long and is offered here for the first time. display wagon 16" l. (without horses)
Condition reportgenerally excellent (1 tin missing lid)
