London: John van Voorst [and successors], 1883-1915. 38 volumes only (5th series, vol.I - 10th series, vol.III, 2 volumes of general indices, 1 volume of subject index, 2 volumes of supplements), 8vo (221 x 140 mm). Numerous plates and maps, including 382 colored plates (332 of these hand-colored lithographs), after J.G.Keulemans, G.E. Lodge, H.Grönvold and others, by Mintern Brothers and others. Original red cloth (37 vols.) or paper wrappers (1 vol.), cloth bindings with gilt Ibis stamped on upper covers, some original wrappers bound-in. Condition: some light soiling to earlier volumes. Provenance: Lynn Abbott Trust. a substantial run of over thirty years of the official organ of the british ornithologist's union, containing some of Keulemans greatest illustrations and a work which wood rightly describes as "the premier publication of its kind in the English language [and] the most practical and best editied ornithological periodical in any language". (Wood p.396). The two index volumes are for 1859-1876 and 1877-1894, the subject index is for 1859-1894, the supplements are the first and second 50th-Jubilee supplements (published in 1909 and 1915), the last is the single volume still in its origianl wrappers.
